“The Normal Heart” Premiere
HBO premieres The Normal Heart —directed by Ryan Murphy and adapted from Larry Kramer’s play of the same name—on Sunday May 25, 9 p.m. ET. The following are reviews from TV critics around the web, compiled by B&C
Our first sneak peek from ‘The Normal Heart’ sees something of a meet-cute (if you can call meeting to argue writing an article about AIDS a meet-cute) between Mark Ruffalo ‘s Ned Weeks and Matt Bomer’s Felix Turner, while the second brings in Julia Roberts ‘ Dr. Emma Brookner, who tries to get Weeks to spread awareness through the gay community in the first place. Finally, ‘ True Blood ‘ and ‘ American Horror Story ‘ vet Denis ’Hare appears as a city representative in the third clip, who downplays the virus’ threat to their community.
As much as (the play is) specific to the topic, the AIDS crisis, the humanity that overreaches all of it is what really kind of hurts your heart at the end of it," Parsons said. "It feels like something horrible that happened that has happened before in different ways, and it feels like, humans being humans, may happen again. And maybe that's why a story like this is so important to tell in the hope that maybe that can be course corrected, and that it not happen again."
I gained twenty pounds for Lone and lost twenty for Normal And we wrapped Lone in the end of November and I think we hit camera for Normal in, I think, May. So yeah. That’s the beauty of my gig though, you know? I can go and kind of envelop myself in these war heroes and these Navy Seals and tell a different but almost emotionally-kind-of-draining film as well with Lone , you know? With the families and all those guys, it was a heavy set to be on as well.
