Gold Wiser
I’ve been to Glastonbury for the last 4 years and it just gets better every time. This year, the 40 th anniversary of the festival’s birth in the 1000 acres Somerset fields making up Michael Eavis’ legendary farm, was no exception. Who would have thought that something which began as “Pilton Pot Festival” which cost £1 entry, with free milk from the farm itself, could have become the amazing and renowned event which over 177,000 people attended this year?
Kaskade played a set filled with throwback tracks and Fire & Ice goodness. A few hits from the Atmosphere album were of course in there, but they felt overrun by the modern takes on his old tracks. The San Franciscan performed as he always does, bring out the freak of nature in all of us. There was something about the Float Den and his music style that just meshed beautifully; the colors and floats, the music and the surrealness of it all was a helluva sight. yes, and confetti. Would it be a Kaskade show without confetti?
The sultry but equally strong allure of Marina’s (real name Marina Diamandis) voice captured me from minute one, veering from beautifully controlled and deeply personal one minute to strong and even shout-y the next. Her sound and sense of individuality caused me to draw similarities to Regina Spektor, whilst her lack of inhibition and her obvious personal connections and ability to throw herself entirely into her music harks back to the likes of Janis Joplin.
On reflection, my advice to anyone would be if you love music and the line-up available, whatever the festival, go and support the artists and enjoy the music. Our experience of V festival specifically was entirely positive, so much so a seemingly one-off for me and the gang looks like becomming a much more regular event! The fact I still have my wristband on six months later should tell it's own story. Thanks V, thanks all the artists, organisers and crowds, hopefully see you in 2014! Feel the Vibe!
Outside of Poland, most people would be hard-pressed to cough up the name of a Polish band or artist; rectify that situation with a trip to Poland’s Three Lake Valley outside Katowice for OFF Festival. The festival brings together the cream of the domestic musical crop (Kaseciarz, Normal Echo, Eugeniusz Rudnik and Wild Books are all on the schedule) as well as a diverse international musical roster, pulling from shoegaze, hardcore punk, and psychedelia to play for an enthusiastic crowd. This is a music festival for true music fans.
