Kaiser Chief's Ricky Wilson was determined to get the festival off to an energetic start It especially had to redeem itself after the whole Adele 'speech-gate' incident in 2012 followed by what can only be described the crappiest performance by Blur. There have been mixed reactions to headline act Metallica at the Glastonbury Festival, as Lizo Mzimba reports
In the beginning of 2013 MS MR released "Fantasy," the first track off of their upcoming album Secondhand Rapture. For the full-length Lizzy and Max initially wrote and recorded all the tracks in Max's home studio in Brooklyn. Composed over the course of a year and produced by Max, the duo then brought in Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Amy Winehouse), to mix the full-length and add some additional production at the legendary Electric Lady Studios. "It was a big leap from the glorified closet where we recorded our demos to our first real studio," says Max, "but it was an amazing opportunity for us to augment the tracks with some live instrumentation and to work with Tom, one of our musical heroes."
This band are overworked and delighted about it. At the start of the year they were listed as one of the BBC Sound of 2013; they were critics' choice nominees at the Brits. Now, after months of bubbling interest, they're ready to release a debut album, Body Music , a dozen sunny, electronic tracks (including an entertaining cover of Montell Jordan's 1995 R&B hit This is How We Do It) built around Aluna's vocals and George's beats. An infectious pairing.
On December 13 th 2013, Beyonce released her self-titled visual album compiled of 14 tracks and 17 videos spontaneously released on iTunes directly to fans with no promotion or media hype beforehand. Perhaps the Queen’s strongest move yet. Her live performances (complete with all-girl band) are simply incomparable and she has become a certified sex symbol for men and women alike. I find it fascinating that there is even a course taught at degree level, named ‘Politicising Beyonce’ which explores her cultural and social significance in the world today.
From these humble beginnings, the brothers introduced Chime to the world. The track received its first live airing at a local disco in a venue called the Grasshopper. Next was a gig at the Town and Country 2 in Islington, performing for the first time under the name Orbital. "I was absolutely dumbfounded because we'd come up from Sevenoaks in the Mini Metro and I just assumed nobody knew us," says Hartnoll. "We'd never had a record out – Chime was a white label at that point – but when we played it there was a ripple of recognition through the audience. This was our first proper gig and they knew the record – and were dancing. That was pretty astounding."
