Actor and humanitarian Karlheinz Böhm died aged 86 near Salzburg. He was born March 16th 1928 in Darmstadt, Germany. His father was the world-famous conductor Karl Böhm. Karlheinz Böhm died aged 86 after a long illness at his home in Grödig, near Salzburg late Thursday, a spokesperson from his aid organization announced on Friday.

Bohm is also survived by five children from his previous marriages. He was critically acclaimed for his performance as a very English psychopath – the cameraman-killer in Michael Powell’s Peeping Tom “Peeping Tom”. Bohm's international breakthrough came playing opposite Romy Schneider as Austrian kaiser Franz Joseph in the historic melodrama Sissi (1955). The film was a global hit and spawned two sequels. Their success led to international offers, including the leading role in Michael Powell 's serial killer classic Peeping Tom (1960), where he plays the creepy, cinematic voyeur Mark Lewis.

Shooting to stardom as the male lead to Romy Schneider’s empress Elisabeth called Sissi in the post-war trilogy by the same name, he also starred four Fassbinder movies, but actor Karl-Heinz Böhm also had a lot more to offer. His heart beat for Africa and he not only found his love and wife Almaz there, but also founded the charity “Menschen für Menschen” – Humans for Humans. Bohm is survived by wife Almaz Teshome and five children from previous marriages. One of the most intriguing personalities to come out of Detroit in the 1930s might just be Herb Jeffries.
