NRL clubs eyeing Melbourne Storm players warned to tread carefully
A problem gambler recruited a Victorian based mate to help with a false invoice scam to rip off nearly $600,000 from his Brisbane based employer, a court heard yesterday. Prosecutor Julie Aylward told the District Court in Brisbane that Leslie Jones had used a persistent and calculated fraud to pinch $583,339 from his employer B and R Enclosures. Ms Aylward said there were 221 false invoices issued of which money was paid on 220. She said no restitution was made and the company had to bear the loss while its profit margin had gone up since Jones had been caught.
Tonya Harding Once the darling of the figure skating world, Tonya Harding would quickly become its greatest villain after a vicious attack on rival Nancy Kerrigan in 1994. The attack took place in the lead up to the World Championships which Kerrigan was favoured to win. Hardy, in conjunction with her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and her bodyguard Shawn Eckardt, hired Shane Stant to break Kerrigan’s right leg so she would be unable to skate. Stant was not the most brilliant of accomplices and managed to only bruise, not break, Kerrigan’s leg but it was enough to make her withdraw from the Championships which Harding would go on to win.
A punt on Todd Carney proved to be a masterstroke for Shane Flanagan as he helped steer the club towards the finals. An injury late in the season had a big effect on the club's finals charge but there's no doubting they're a better team when he's fit. Jeff Robson came over from the Eels after directing them to a grand final in 2009, and his partnership with Carney proved to work. An injury to either could derail their campaign, but Chad Townsend's ability shouldn't be overlooked.
Discoveries, innovations, understanding and advanced techniques developed by the NRL team have been transferred to the Navy's Electromagnetic Railgun Program and helped push the technology closer to weaponization. In the process, the NRL program has broken records, developed and tested new rail and armature geometries, introduced advanced materials and launch techniques and developed new diagnostics requiring efforts ranging from modeling and simulation to engineering design to testing to detailed analyses of results.
