Manuel "Meme" Uribe Garza (11 June 1965 – 26 May 2014) was a Mexican man who suffered from morbid obesity to one of the greatest extents known in recorded history. 1 After reaching a peak weight of around 597 kg (1,316 lb) and having been unable to leave his bed since 2002, 1 he lost approximately 230 kg (510 lb)—nearly half of his body weight—with the help of doctors and nutritionists by February 2008, 2 but died in his hometown on 26 May 2014 weighing 394 kg (869 lb). 3
Uribe married Claudia Solis in 2008, and the wedding was one of the few times he left his home in recent years. After years of diet, exercise and medical care, Uribe, had lost more than 550 pounds by the ceremony. Uribe was a chubby kid, weighing more than 250 pounds as an adolescent. Starting in 1992, he said, his weight began ballooning further. Born in 1965 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Uribe said he was always a chubby child. Medical officials have not yet released a cause of death, but the AP noted that Uribe suffered from an array of problems, including cardiac and liver issues. He was reportedly hospitalized May 2 with an irregular heartbeat. On Monday, Uribe died in his hometown of Monterrey, in the northern state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, having suffered kidney failure and cardiac He had hoped to walk down the aisle, but despite his dramatic weight loss, he was transported to the ceremony on a flatbed truck and remained in his custom-made bed, according to The Associated Press.
Uribe's death was confirmed by an official of the health department of Nuevo Leon state, where the city of Monterrey is located. Doctors have not yet certified the cause of death. In addition to the cardiac condition, Uribe was also believed to have suffered from liver problems. Uribe shed tears during the ceremony and embraced his then-38-year-old bride for a 'first dance' but didn't indulge in wedding cake. But his weight got out of hand. Since the summer of 2002, Uribe had been bedridden, relying on his mother and friends to feed and clean him. It was, however, his sedentary life that Uribe claims led to his massive weight gain in the years to come.
Uribe, DOB 1964-05-28, was described as a man of 49 years age. When booked, he weighed 135 lbs and was of height 5' 7". Despite the publicity, his second-marriage was short-lived and ended, according to Uribe's mother, some three-and-a-half years before his death in 2014. 3 As soon as certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the world’;s heaviest man in 2006 when he weighed 88 stone (560kg), a diet program brought Mr Uribe’;s weight down to 57 stone (394kg), but a crane was nonetheless required to take him to hospital. The official, who was not authorized to be quoted by name, said Uribe had been taken to the hospital on May 2 because of an abnormal heartbeat. A religious service was held Tuesday for Uribe. Plans for the ashes were unclear.
