Roundabout Theatre Company, L.A. Theatre Works and BY Experience are thrilled to announce dates and venues for the upcoming screening of Roundabout's critically acclaimed Broadway production of Oscar Wilde 's comedy The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by and starring Brian Bedford
This is a film that was smartly built from the start. Adapting Green's adored story was Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the scribes behind similarly sharp films like (500) Days of Summer and The Spectacular Now These guys not only get how it feels to be a teen girl, but also have an extraordinary gift for balancing comedy and drama, plus a fantastic ear for dialogue. The Fault In Our Stars ' script shines on its own. Then you bring in Boone's outstanding cast.
Woodley stars as Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old Indianapolis girl who’s diagnosed with cancer at 13. It weakens her lungs, forcing her to drag an oxygen tank behind her wherever she goes and to stop to rest after climbing a flight of stairs. While her situation looked bleak a few years ago, participation in a new drug trial has prolonged her life for an indefinite amount of time. Her parents ( Laura Dern and Sam Trammell , with whom she shares some lovely, honest moments) try not to hover over their daughter as she attempts to maintain some vague semblance of teenage life, and they even share her fondness for using dark humor to defuse difficult moments.
For the uninitiated, "Fault" concerns one Hazel Grace Lancaster (the amazing Shailene Woodley), currently dealing with a rare form of cancer that attacks her lymph nodes and makes her lungs the bane of her existence. Hooked up to cannula and dragging around a tank of oxygen, Hazel approaches life with a candor and wit that is refreshing, while hiding a constant worry that she will leave pain and heartache once she dies. Her parents (played by Laura Dern and Sam Trammell) are "helicopter" parents, hovering around her and making sure she’s okay, allowing her the freedom to live a life that has a ticking clock.
