Bethesda Announces Work On Wolfenstein Revival

Bethesda Announces Work On Wolfenstein Revival

There are multiple, complicated relationships at play. These aren't standard hoo-rah cheerleaders, either — there's a real sense of pain and loss, confusion and struggle depicted by the resistance Blazkowicz becomes involved in. And despite some corny ideas here and there and some laugh-out-loud moments, I found myself emotionally invested in The New Order 's cast. They make the almost Bond-ian plot that skips across Europe and beyond feel urgent and necessary.

Blazkowicz is rendered unconscious, and as a result of an encounter with General Wilhelm "Deathshead" Strasse, he is stuck in a mental institution for 14 years suffering from brain damage. Oh, and the Nazis have giant robots now in this alternate 1960s universe. Yeah, this is one messed up future. For those who aren't aware, The New Order is a single-player only game, which is probably for the best knowing how half-assed developers handle multiplayer these days.

The New Order is also old-school at times, chiefly because it employs the classic multi-weapon system that's eschewed so often these days for a simplistic two-gun loadout. There's a weapon wheel that allows you to switch from everything to rocket launchers to silenced pistols to dual assault rifles, and if you want you can use the weapon switch button to quickly swap between two of your favorites - opting for the best of both worlds. Hi-octane action and thrilling adventure weaved together into a tightly paced, super immersive game narrative featuring memorable characters. You’ll be able to see if either grabs your interest when the game releases for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on May 20, 2014.

We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere , ” said Jens Matthies, creative director at MachineGames. “As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.” Last, but not least, The New Order is single-player-only. This is a breath of fresh air in an industry that is continually moving toward online (and always-online.) Look no further than Bethesda itself and the transformation of The Elder Scrolls from a single-player RPG to an MMO. Initially, Bethesda and AKQA had considered licensing existing songs for the campaign, an idea that proved potentially expensive and ultimately impractical.

So, at least for someone like me that’s always loved a good solo campaign, it’s nice to have this game focus on that. A multiplayer mode would probably be fun, but it’s nice to have developer MachineGames focus its energy (and budget) on the campaign. This is especially true since you basically get two play-throughs with the game’s branching storyline. These secrets also tie into The New Order 's dual-timeline mechanic, which is determined by an early life-and-death choice. Your decision determines some major character-related moments, but it also assigns you either the ability to pick locks or hotwire electronics. Either way, you won't be able to find every secret on your first playthrough of an already 12- to 15-hour game.
